This week, we had Jesse Miller come into our class and talk about safety with the internet. To be honest, It was pretty freaky learning about how much information we put out there. We learned about how we train AI cars by filling out the “I am not a robot” tests, and how public our information really is. He emphasized how as educators, we need to be really careful about what we put on the internet, and how we use it safely. I think it will be tricky being a teacher in the next years because of how much is online. We have to start filtering what we post immediately. If you think of people who maybe post a picture of them in a bathing suit, it’s ok when they’re young and with their friends, but is it appropriate for a student or parent to find when they search you up as the teacher for their class? He also taught us what to do with encounters with students at places where they shouldn’t be, or using apps in an innapropriate way. I didn’t know that teachers have the obligation to legally look out for their students outside of the class. I figured so, but didn’t know it can be in their contract.
